Forty years of tennis court construction

Anglia and Midland Sports Ltd is a family-run specialist designer and builder of premium quality tennis courts, sports surfaces and multi-use games areas. The company is owned and run by Rory Shepherd, a second-generation tennis court builder.

Rory Shepherd

Rory Shepherd

Rory had been brought up visiting and working on tennis courts. He obtained a national diploma in construction before joining En Tout Cas, the largest sports surfacing company in the world at that time, as a contracts manager in 1973. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Bob Shepherd, En-Tout-Cas's General Manager in the UK.

He left in 1979, starting Anglia and Midland. He has held a Licentiate of the I.O.G. for a number of years. Rory specialises in designing attractive tennis courts, and landscaping around tennis courts. Even as managing director his passion still lies in the planning and design of courts and he takes great pride in dealing with the construction and design of AMSS courts personally.

THREE GENERATIONS
Rory’s son Tony Shepherd was brought up visiting tennis court sites and working on them in his school and university holidays.

Having obtained his MEng in Civil Engineering at Manchester he joined Laing O’Rourke and became a Fully Incorporated Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers before rejoining En-Tout-Cas in 2013 to head the third generation of Shepherds to run the firm.

Celia Shepherd manages our maintenance division from our Market Harborough office (Tel: 01536 772005). She looks after the colour-spraying of new courts, and cleaning and repainting of older courts and the maintenance and refurbishment of Astroturf and other synthetic grass tennis court surfaces.

To date we have surfaced more than 5,000 courts. We would be pleased to arrange for you to play on one of these. We are always happy to come out and meet to discuss and design a court to your requirements.

All our courts are built by teams of experienced professionals. We have ten dedicated construction teams led by two construction managers. All of our foremen have been in the industry for more than 25 years. Carpet laying is carried out by our dedicated team of specialists. Excavation work is carried out by our own highly skilled excavator driver.

TENNIS COURT PLANNING
We offer a planning consultation service. For more complex or contentious planning issues, we use the professional services of Mark Jarman of Planning for Tennis. Mark is a former senior planning officer with extensive experience of tennis court planning and a love of the game. The service aims to help secure planning permission for all types of tennis-related infrastructure ranging from a single garden tennis court to other more extensive tennis club facilities. For more information about Planning for Tennis click here.

We operate from a purpose-built office and depot, as our address suggests, but that doesn't mean we switch off from tennis courts at five o'clock. Out of office hours, the phone is normally diverted to a home number. We are happy to take your calls there in the evenings and on Saturdays, just ring our Head Office number: 01832 272449.
